– Director’s Notes: April 2019 –
This month I wanted to express my thanks and appreciation again to all who made our March 23 McIntyre Hall concert so amazing! Many many thanks to all the coaches who spent dedicated hours preparing the students to place such a challenging piece! The beauty of that concert was due to the excellent preparation, the spirit and the emotion expressed, and of course, the amazing musical geniuses behind the creation of the scores.
As a society we owe so much to those self-sacrificing composers, artists, and musicians who give us such treasures to enjoy and to re-create using our own creative artistry. It’s really an amazing cross-cultural and even cross-centuries collaboration between the minds and hearts of the originators of the music, and our young people and their coaches and directors. I am so honored to be one of those directors! What an intense thrill to hear the results of all of our hard work! Thank you all from the bottom of my heart.
For the Youth Symphonies, our next projects are two very famous overtures: Die Fledermaus (The Bat) by Johan Strauss, and the William Tell Overture by Giacomo Rossini, also known as the theme of the Lone Ranger! Mount Baker Youth Symphony is really enjoying its new rehearsal space in Trinity Lutheran Church in Bellingham. Fidalgo Youth Symphony now returns to Salem Lutheran Church after Spring break. I hope you all had a great, fun, and refreshing time. Let’s finish off the year with our best efforts to make our final concert of the season as memorable as March 23!
Warm regards,
Sharyn Peterson
